Postbaccalaureate Research Assistant
I am a senior at San Diego State University who will be graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology this upcoming May. I am hoping to continue my education by attending graduate school. I am interested in research relating to neuropsychology and I hope to work with and assist individuals with developmental disorders such as autism. I am currently an intern at Springall Academy (a school that works with special needs youth) to gain more experience in the field of psychology before attending grad school. I am also currently working as an entry-level behavior therapist at Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) and hope to progress in the company as I implement ABA therapy to youth with autism.
Being a research assistant for Dr. Marx has taught me how to apply the knowledge I have learned in psychology classes to real-world situations. It has helped me understand both the rewarding and more grueling aspects of research, including dealing with complicated data, being precise, formulating questions for a study, and discussing ideas with my fellow colleagues. The research we have conducted has given me insight into the different aspects affecting why minorities and women are less likely to pursue SEM majors and ways to influence these populations positively. The lab has also given me more insight into what graduate schools expect of students and how discussions in that environment take place. I hope to continue wherever my journey into the world of psychology takes me, with the ultimate goal of helping others with their mental health and making a difference in the world.
